Vehicles, Backing, Blind Spots & Pedestrian Hazards

A 12-minute lesson for crew members on the vehicle hazards of lot and road work: blind areas, backing with a spotter, keeping people and machines apart, closing the lot to the public, and staying visible at night.

You will be able to

  • Explain what a blind area is and why one safety practice, such as a backup alarm, is not enough.
  • Back a vehicle with a spotter using agreed signals, and stop when contact with the spotter is lost.
  • Describe the parts of an internal traffic control plan for a parking-lot job.
  • Set up basic lot closure: advance sign, channelizing devices, tapers, and an empty buffer space.
  • Explain the high-visibility apparel rules for day and night work.
  • Keep pedestrians on a marked path away from vehicles and equipment.
